The RM of Spiritwood No. 496 is an agricultural municipality situated in the north central parkland district of Saskatchewan. Grain growing is the chief industry followed closely by livestock operations. Big game hunting, great fishing and the many resorts and regional parks make this area a popular destination.
The Rural Municipality of Spiritwood No. 496 first formed on December 9, 1929 and expanded to amalgamate Shell Lake No. 495 on December 31, 1953. We are located in the north central region of the province.
The Organized Hamlet of Spruce Bay, Aspen Ridge Estates, Green Jewel Estates, Sunset Rim Estates, Angus Estates, Misty Grove, The Cove and South Shore Ridge are all lakeshore developments that are governed by the RM.
The Town of Spiritwood, Villages of Leoville and Shell Lake, Resort Villages of Big Shell & Echo Bay, are self- governing entities that lie within the geographical boundaries of the RM.
Memorial Lake Regional Park and Meeting Lake Regional Park, as well as Witchekan Lake First Nation & Pelican Lake First Nation also lie within the boundary of the RM of Spiritwood.
Saskatchewan has 296 rural municipalities with a provincial average of 1033 sq. km. The RM of Spiritwood No. 496 has 29 townships with a land base of 2,392 sq. km.

The emergency plan provides direction for the TOWN OF SPIRITWOOD and the R.M. OF SPIRITWOOD when responding to an emergency. An emergency plan will not prevent, nor reduce the possibility of an emergency occurring. It will aid in providing a prompt and coordinated response, thereby reducing human suffering and loss or damage to property or the environment. The Emergency Plan authorizes the taking of extraordinary action by Police, Fire and/or other Emergency Response Personnel, for the safety and well-being of the community, where time is of critical importance.
